Lines: Withheld (2011)
Withheld, a piece from my series called Lines, is a percussion quartet for tuned metals. This particular recording was made with tuned pipes, but it could also be performed with any assortment of tuned metals (crotales, glock, vibraphone, chimes, celeste, bell plates, almglocken, gongs, etc…). It was composed with the pipe pitches used for David Lang’s second movement of The So-Called Laws of Nature in mind. The Lines pieces are based on a series of rhythmic “duration lines,” which are used to create both structure and polyrhythmic interest.
Special thanks to Kaylee Bonatakis, Matt Roberts, Karen Toney, and Bryant Bernal for taking time to make the below recording.
Concertante (2011)
Solo for multi-percussion and electronics. Premiered in September of 2011 at the Accidental Music Festival. Read a post about the piece here. When you purchase the piece, you will also receive the electronic and click track recordings.
The below recording is of the premiere, which was performed at the Accidental Music Festival in September of 2011.
Passages, Book I (2011)
This collection of four-mallet studies are designed as early literature for emerging students. They are intended to aid in the development of musicianship through technique on a marimba.
OPEN/shut (2010)
Composed as a fanfare for my recent Vignette recital series, OPEN/shut is a solo for multi-keyboard and it was premiered on March 3, 2010 at the University of South Florida.
Second Reconstruction (2009)
Second Reconstruction, a solo for prepared vibraphone, was commissioned by Drew Johnson and was premiered at the University of South Carolina in 2009.
Revolutions (2003/2007)
This quartet for vibraphones came about while I was an undergraduate dabbling in both improvisation and Terry Riley’s In C. The vibraphone, being an incredible tool for improvisation, is used to feature each player spontaneously composing in a cycle or revolution. The piece was later reworked in 2007 for a performance at the University of Texas at Austin.
